It requires a 1" hole for installation. When set in place, the shank will only have about 4" of length to pass through your wall or fridge door, due to the length of the collar and back nut. Installation note: On a fridge there is generally no coolant lines running through the door but please check to see there are no lines connecting the door and the rest of the refrigerator. To test for
