It is not nearly as tolerant of adverse conditions as the common B. splendens; a heater and a cycled, filtered tank are a must. These Bettas are quite shy so all but the smallest and most peaceful tankmates (Such as Boraras sp.) are best avoided. Wild bettas also appreciate dark, acidic, tannin stained water with dim lighting and floating plants.
